….and are now even more convinced that Obama is the right choice for America’s future. While we had our concerns about how his commercial might provide more ammunition for his opponents, the way he articulated his message, the details of his plans, his confidence in speaking, and his ability to make us believe that better times are possible and that we all play a role in the future was truly inspiring. In 6 days, each person is going to have to make a decision that they believe is the right one for them and their families – I only hope that you feel as absolutely certain, hopeful and inspired by the person you want to lead this country as we do.

Hot Pumpkin Pie

Yesterday, we decided to try and get into the spirit of Autumn with our friends Jake and Aiyana, so we went to a Fall Festival in Woodland hills. Problem was, it’s not Autumn here yet (may never be again), and it was 93 degrees. You could smell the pumpkins baking on the ground. Corn was popping inside the corn maze. There was no shade anywhere, so we left early and dashed back to the A/C for ice cream and a nap. We’re gonna try again, if it cools off. If….

Obama-Biden Tax Cut Calculator

I’m not one to believe that tax cuts are the answer to all our problems. In fact, I think they are, in part, what got us into this situation in the first place. We MUST pay taxes to provide infrastructure, and SOMEHOW we have to get out of all this national debt. Tina and I pay plenty. In fact, I pay close to 40% on my script contracts and residuals (not counting 16.5% to my manager, lawyer, and the Guild).

All that said, check out the Obama-Biden Tax Cut Calculator. Their plan saved us $1,076 over the McCain plan — mostly because we don’t make enough money to benefit from the McCain plan, and don’t own an Oil company.

She eats, she rides, she runs…

Here are just a few shots from the last couple of weeks…..our little one looooves bananas, has figured out how to get on and off her fire truck and runs everywhere. She sits in a forward-facing car seat now and oh yeah…she’s an Obama supporter.

Paying students to do the right thing?

I am disturbed…driving home last night, I heard a story on NPR about a new program in NY that pays students for doing well in school – for both grades and behavior. My first reaction was “why?”. Shouldn’t kids be expected to work hard and do well at school? I don’t expect every child to get straight A’s and I completely understand that in today’s world parents are not always available to support and reinforce lessons at home, but should we really be bribing our kids for something as basic as going to school, putting forth an effort and acting appropriately?

Our friend Sam, who lives in NY and is visiting us right now, shared with me that there are many influences in today’s world (especially NY) that make it tougher for kids to succeed. Things like going to school in a safe environment, without having to worry about gangs, having the necessary school supplies, enough food in their bellies and a loving home that makes education a priority are simply not the case for many kids. He suggested that giving this a try might just make the difference between a kid that slips through the cracks or giving school an honest effort (even if it is for a financial reward).

There are always two sides to every story and even though I don’t think of myself as being naive, maybe my idea of kids going to school to learn (and that being the “job” they’re expected to do) is outdated now. Either way, this story prompted me to think about what’s happening in today’s educational system and what kinds of expectations are put on us as parents to make learning – and instilling a desire to want to do well – a lesson to teach our daughter.

Sophie spends the day with the Chavarria’s

To allow Brad a little more quiet time to put the finishing touches on “Road Trip 2″ (which starts shooting on Monday in Atlanta), Sophie visited with her friends Lupita, Cassandra and Andy today. Here’s the note I got from her right before I picked her back up:

Mommy,
I had such a fun day with the Chavarria’s that I just couldn’t wait to tell you about it. In the morning I got to play with Cassandra, she had so many toys that I could play with! I really liked her bed Mommy. I want a Princess bed when I get bigger too! I loved getting on and off it, it was so much fun. I took a nap for an hour and a half. When I woke up I was so ready to run around the house! I was a good girl and ate all my lunch even though the avocado taste funny. When Andy got home I was so happy, I gave him a big hug. I can tell he really likes me cause he takes good care of me. We all got to go to the mall and it was so much fun! I got to go under a tunnel, sit on a cricket, and go down a slide with Andy! We then got to ride a school bus (not a real one mom) a toy one but it moved and felt real. I even got to be in front and be the driver. When Lupita took me off I cried cause it was so much fun I didn’t want to get off. Finally, I got to play a little in this cool fountain they had mommy. I’m sorry but I got just a little wet. Lupita thought I was wet enough that she bought me a new outfit. I hope you like it cause it’s really cool. I look so cute in it! Well, I have lots of pictures that I want to share with you on my busy day today. I am looking forward to seeing you soon, I’m tired Mommy. I love you so much!!!
